Are you interested to know how the first cycling town in Singapore was built? Lovecycing.sg is very honored to have Maria Boey, VP of Surbana International, who plan the Pasir Ris and Tampines Towns, will ride with us and explain how the cycling town was built. This is usually taught (with fee) to civil servants from other countries and not found in books because it’s based on personal experiences. The guided ride is free for lovecycling group.

Cycling town ride

Date: 13/02/2011
Time: 8:30am (extra hour of rest for Dessaru recce group)
Meeting place: Aranda Country Club (Pair Ris Drive 3)
Route: Sungei Tampines – Pasir Ris – Tampines Town – Town Garden – Neighbourhood 8 – Temasek Polytechnic – Bedok Reservoir – East Coast Park (Optional)
Other ride information: It is not just a cycling trip ,but information on the facilities along the way will be given at the start. Maria will prepare the maps for stop points of interest.eg. Kampong Senang Centre where the community garden is. There are many herbs planted for healing and consuming.
We will cross Temasek Polytechnic into the Bedok Reservoir and stop there.

Points of interest:

– Weir Station
– Sungei Tampines where a weir (inflatable rubber wall) is built to create a waterbody when the weather is dry. When it rains, the water will be drained out to Straits of Johor.
From Pasir Ris Town, we cross the expressway by an overhead bridge and then cycle through Tampines Town via Town Garden, the MRT Viaduct and to the green connector in neighbored 8 to its neighbourhood Centre. For those want to extend the ride, we can continue to East Coast Park.

A charity which provide for day care center for young and old. They have a herbal garden with many types of herbs.
